Kendall walking Victoria's Secret is a pity - here's why. (+ why rihanna REALLY cancelled her performance)

On November 3, 2015 - also Kendall Jenner's birthday, it was announced that she's be walking for hyped lingerie brand Victoria's Secret. Here's the twister :Its speculated, an authentic and experienced black model was replaced by Kendall. Rihanna cancelled her performance to *work on her new album*  - or maybe RiRi got pissed off.

Here's what's up - they flung a mere 2 million fantasy bra to Lilly Aldridge who they made an angel 5 years ago because she married that lead-singer-dude from Kings of Leon. She's honestly been given the fantasy bra out of pity. Then they playfully announce Gigi, she doesn't bother me - she's like a Cara to me - gorgeous, overrated and climbed the ladder too quick because of contacts. Then they announce Kendall - wow. Then Rihanna cancels her performance - and Jourdan Dunn tweets something nasty:

'Feeling so much better about not doing BS... sorry I mean VS now that Rihanna isn't doing it also'

It's strange that Rihanna's been up for quite a few gigs the past week but cant spare one evening to perform? Remind yourselves she committed - she has people planning and organizing her weeks and months and years - these things never happen unless someone's unwell or something - rumor has it she cancelled because they replaced Jourdan Dunn with Kendall - and Rihanna's good buds with Jourdan.

Lets talk about Jourdan, shall we?

Jourdan Dunn has struggled more than the average model - she's recited tales of discrimination in the industry and her struggle to the covers of magazines and designer campaigns. She's also walked for Victoria's Secret three times before. She's experienced. If this isnt the Kardashians cashing out the fashion industry - homie you got the brains of a teletubby.

As some of you may/may not know - the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is more of an event starring the creme de la creme of the modelling world - like, literally - the upshot of the story was to put on a show with the industry's most flawlessly 'it' and top models. The angels although forever critiqued, work out like athletes - I'm talking hours in the gym, ballet, swimming and boxing. If you happen to do basic research you'd see how they've risen - from getting scouted as 13 year olds or 16 year olds and have been working in the industry for years. If you think being in the industry when you're that young, insecure and vulnerable is easy - then honey boboo you need to do you some serious reading.

Friendly reminder - most of these models that start out - about more than half of them quit; it's NOT an easy lifestyle. I'm talking depression, self esteem issues, bullying, anorexia, poverty, constantly being under pressure, living in cramped apartments, getting products in place of money, attending castings, hearing "no" and being judged about your looks every day. If you do not happen to be white and blonde, and belong to different ethnicity, you'll have it worse and get paid lesser than your white co-models(models like Jourdan and Chanel have spoken out about it numerous times).

But you know - you could skip the hard work and struggle if you're 17 year old Kendall.

Ladies and Gentlemen - Kendall's career in High fashion is as old as Kim and Kanye's relationship. She's said it herself - she just heard 'no' for a really long time. Then I guess Kim's Husband made a few calls and then we just saw her on the billboards. I really wish I could hit you up with more but that's the tale as it is.

I love how her 12 year old fans defend her, below is a list of their strong arguments:

1. She's so tall and skinny.
2. She's so pretty, it was bound to happen anyway.
3.She's struggled more than the other models because she was overshadowed by her family's reality TV series.
4.She's been bullied allot by other models so she deserves this.
5. Whats your problem, all the designers want her so she must be something.

Aww, so well thought through. I hope you get a star ,a smiley and big tick-mark for that strong debate game of yours. Now,

1. Tall and skinny and good looks don't qualify you as a model - there's a billion girls out there that match that description, I mean it - the industry's got more variety of tall and skinny than you've ever seen, that's what makes it so much worse - have you ever imagined having to compete in a crowd for your looks where most of you - look alike? You aren't unique, you're all just white, tall and skinny. (I wont bring up the industry's struggle with ethnic diversity right now, because it's still only a struggle)

2. Was it? because everyone pretty on a reality TV series becomes a model. Yep, you got me now. Also - there's so many *pretty* girls out there who dont even get noticed, pity. Also, to be a pretty girl who gets into modelling, you need to be scouted by someone - she was scouted by nobody, lol.

3.  WOW, THAT SOUNDS GRUESOME. To be laying in luxury and riches, already be famous, have millions of followers on social media and not struggling with poverty, debt, eating disorders damn, mustive been SO hard to find her way into the fashion world.

4.Everyone has - people have quit, killed themselves, felt and been through horrors. But yeah, she got told to her face that she bought her way to the top -pretty intense.

5. There's so many designers out there having major money problems - to them, its good business. They get the dollahz and these Kardashian women have an insane social media reach. What an convenient shortcut. Its all so easy, don't you see? Its all about the Benjamins.

Ah well, I'm just sitting here patiently waiting for the hate to hit this post - the Kardashians have a very loyal population, my favorite pass time is asking these people what each one of them do - its all very enlightening and intellectually stimulating.

P.S- tag a friend you want to piss off! (=

The really real models out there.

below is a synopsis of my feelings in gif version:

If youre looking for Kendall or Cara or Gigi here, please leave - because you're probably like, 12 or something staring into Instagram and idolizing the idiots/idols of your generation whilst trying to contour your baby cheeks.

Below I proclaim my girl-crushes since like, 8th grade :

Natasha Poly : her cheekbones jut through magazine paper.

Daphne Groeneveld : I didnt really dig her initially, but then she grew on me, and eventually her Dior Addict commercial had me floored.

Joan Smalls : Yep - youve seen her in Beyonce's  video - but I think she's got the best walk ever + is so versatile in her editorials, when Prabal Gurung starred her in his campaign I was wow-ed out with the images.

Charlotte Free : she's a pink haired punk, thats all.

Liu Wen : I genuinely like her better then Sui - because she's just more chamelion-ic in her photographs.

Chanel Iman : she's half Korean and half African American. She's flawless.

Jacquelyn Jablonski : she's  forever surreal .

Lara Stone : She's gap toothed, Russian - and has the most perfect boobs ever.

Isabelli Fontana : She's breathtaking.

The new face of Marc Jacobs, and why she's forever relevant.

Cher  - the new face for Marc Jacobs Fall 2015

Cher - singer, actress and style icon is Marc Jacob's latest and obvious muse - He accompanied her in this year's Met Gala and she's now graced his fall 2015 campaign. Katie Grand unveiled the very first image on twitter Wednesday morning - Marc I just want you to know - my faith in you is beginning to restore.

The 69-year old wears a black floor-length gown from Jacob's interestingly-eerie fall 2015 collection - She throws a sharp look for the image shot by David Sims. I adore that she has some serious witchcraft-ey-ness going on, but I'm not a fan of the photographer chosen or the overall creative direction. The image couldve been more in context with the collection's mood. Hire Tim Walker, Katie - Marc's collection's begging for him.

However, this is the first image, and nobody's sure as to what the others look like, or if they star other Industry icons.

While we live in 2015, that has the #freethenipple campaign making rounds on social media - Cher was the first woman to "expose" her navel on television - and fought censorship during the 70s to bare her belly button. She's the woman who freed the navel. All you crop top people - bow down, bitches.

Why I genuinely will never fall out of love with Cher is because she did the glitter-gypsy look and the crazy-sheer dresses before everyone else ever did - or ever thought of doing. She had black lustrous hair and unconventional style. I don't think you can ever out-do that. Let's not overlook how she rose to success in a male-dominated entertainment world. She was wild and carefree and comfortable in her own skin before it was okay to be.

Cher in her iconic sheer dress - shot by Richard Avedon. (Kim Kardashian claimed this look was her inspiration
for this years met Gala)

Ive always found Marc too much of a basic bitch. I wont lie, some of his collections for Louis Vuitton were hideous. On the flip side his own brand seemed forever interesting - and I was pleased to watch him depart Louis Vuitton and pass the baton to Nicolas Ghesquiere.

I'm glad youre finally where you do your best Marc. Brilliance is on your side with the fall collection coupled with this campaign featuring Cher.

What Alexa Chung really does in life.

People are always in mass confusion as to what Alexa Chung does - she sits front row for numerous high-end shows at fashion week, appears on the covers of Magazines like Elle and Harpers Bazaar, has photographs in magazines for her sense of style and even hosts shows sometimes(+ she was dating Alex Turner for 4 years).
People thus conveniently come to a conclusion that she has no real job - and she takes what she's given.

Alexa on the cover of Harper's Bazaar UK, May 2009.

I used to think the very same way, well - for a while. Recently, I was compelled to think otherwise.

Alexa Chung got school done with to pursue modelling as a career when she was scouted by Storm Model Management - and she was quite successful - starring in a few music videos, working with companies like Urban Outfitters and Sony Ericsson, and even had a reality TV gig. However, 4 years down the line she quit modelling to begin curation and journalism of a kind. Modelling isn't the most fabulous career to keep - it consists of constant criticism from each end, being under pressure to stick to a number on the weighing machine, eating disorders, then there's the constant insecurity and competition to top it off with.

In 2006, she ended up becoming a TV personality; presenting and hosting shows and events for various channels - making appearances in the modelling world every now and then. Side by side , around 2007 - she would write a monthly column for Company - a British women's magazine and also wrote a weekly newspaper column for Britain's The Independent from November 2008 to June 2009.
She also ended up releasing a book called "It" in 2005. In 2009 she became a  contributing editor for British Vogue,

The cover of "It" by Alexa Chung.

So she's been juggling being a Television Presenter, Model, Editor, Journalist and Author for some time now. See, that's where I come to think differently about her - I relate to her instantly because sometimes, there's so much I'd like to do in the world - but it's terrible that I'm supposed to pick just one thing to do. Alexa just, chose to do more with her life instead of sticking to her previous decisions.

Alexa talking jibberish whilst posing for an editorial

I think to myself what I'd want to do with my life - and it's a complete rubik's cube. There's so much to do - so much. I see my life panning out the same way - I'll be doing different things and my job descriptions will change drastically - it's really not a bad thing to do; to learn and to expereince more.

On the flip-side, I do agree entirely with Barbara Ellen's review on "It" - Alexa's book .I do also agree she can be quite blatantly stupid on occasion and I dislike that she fakes being 'naturally skinny' - I once read an account of someone who worked with her for a day : and all she was seen eating was half an apple and a diet coke. Screw being "naturally skinny" - bottomline is, she's not healthy and it's  very obvious.

Not "naturally skinny"

The instagram picture that caused controversy for how skinny her legs appeared.

But I genuinely feel like she's living the dream - career wise. She gives zero hoots about having one profession and does what she pleases - when she pleases. She might be the jack of all trades and master of none, but then again - she gets to experience, learn and absorb from all of it *Though it seems that all she's been doing lately is attending fancy parties*.

I think everyone would kill for a slice of a that life.

If 'overrated' was a person, it would be Cara.

I'm possibly one of the only people you'll ever meet who understood people's obsession with Cara Delevingne- and who knew her before you found her "pretty" on your tumblr dashboard. I'm not a hater, and I dont really flinch at the sight of her - it's just that I don't buy her as a "supermodel" and never will. In fact, anyone who questions themselves frequently as to why they like what they like, wouldn't buy Cara as a "supermodel".

First Off, lets get facts in place. Cara never really had to work too hard to be a model because she already had plenty of top-notch contacts. Enter, Poppy Delevingne - yes, Cara has an elder sister you've almost never heard of. Poppy was scouted by Storm Model Management founder Sarah Doukas in 2008. Well, after that she ended up being the face of brands like Louis Vuitton and worked with people *cough*(idiots) like Terry Richardson and is presently an ambassador for the British Fashion Council. Well - Cara came skipping around and got scouted by *pause of predictability* Sarah Doukas of Storm Model Management.

I kinda forgot to let everyone know that her Godfather's a Conde Nast Executive , and her Godmother's the actress Joan Collins. *cough*remember her minor role in Anna Karenina*cough*

See where I'm getting at?

Let's analyse her as a model - her prime shining career at the moment. Her expressions are the same everywhere to be honest - eyes staring into a camera and her lips parting or together with her cheekbones jutting - she'll eventually look another direction and do the same maybe, but that's her serious modelling,

It's literally the same expression.

Cara's success isn't just about her family, it's her own doings too : she got tumblr-famous in a jiffy with the flood of her whacky faces in backstage pictures. People thought she was a high fashion model with "a personality" - I mean tumblr's the kind of place where a picture of a person holding a shoe in front of their webcam will get 3,000 notes - it's an open community where people influence each other real quick. You'll see a black and white paparazzi picture of Kim Kardashian and people commenting "she's perf" "wow that body" and people get swayed. But then again, tumblr is a community that constantly inspires people and shares perspectives - but it influences strongly. I've witnessed that for myself. Cara literally flooded tumblr before she flooded the fashion industry - Everyone's dashboard had a pictures of her twisted eyeballs and stretchy tongue. everyone.

Her fame grew with the people before if grew with the industry - which isn't a bad thing, it's just interesting to note how labels and designers can get hungry for a slice of that fame. Plus, she's dead skinny so, criteria fulfilled. Actually it was most shocking when a brand like Victoria's Secret - which is known for it's fit and curvaceous supermodels had Cara walk for them in 2012 and 2013 shows . After stuffing her bra - she still looked out-of-place in that show. She's high-fashion material, and  people realized that eventually.

Another fascinating aspect of her fame is the flamboyant people she's come to be associated with - Rihanna,Michelle Rodriguez ,Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora, Harry Styles and Kendall Jenner. You have got to admit, it's hard to not get plenty of attention when you're constantly seen with that crowd.
Her social media following is also tremendous - and models.com ranks her 4th in their 'social' section.

Think about it, she's skinny, blonde, has blue eyes - possesses perhaps the most cliche face. Her acquisition of fame is plain unique, and the industry's played along perfectly. If she ever walked passed me as an ordinary person, I wouldn't turn to glance - nobody would.

I feel like the 'supermodel' status rests with models that are unique with their features and versatile in every photograph - Cara really is literally none of the above.

Rihanna for Dior : A Freudian slip by the fashion industry.

There's the media flooding their readers with "Rihanna makes history as first black model to feature in Dior" either in their very headlines or lead paragraphs, nobody seems to notice how strange the sound of that really is. We have a Freudian slip by the fashion industry right here.

Last year Jourdan Dunn made headlines for being the first black model to land a solo Vogue UK cover in 12 years - not many people address it, but racism in the fashion world is an issue taken far to lightly : notice, that there's barely any black designers out there, most runways are dominated by lighter-skin-toned models. While were at this, lets take a second to analyse Beyonce and Nicki's excessive skin bleaching. See what attempting to be a fashion-icon-of-a-sort demands?

Carole White - founder of Premier Model Management who's known to have supported and represented Naomi Campbell through most of her modelling career, stated in an article; 'Clients never wanted to pay Naomi as much as the white girls. It was always a battle.’ - well, that's just disturbing.

I really hope I live in a world someday where a black model landing a cover or being the face of a brand isn't big news at all - I ain't ever heard of "Karlie Kloss - white model lands Vogue cover" in my life, it sounds ridiculous to no end.
So after 69 years, Dior's "secret garden" campaign series, found a non-white personality to grace their campaign - and in all honesty,Rihanna does look quite badgalriri-ful in the teasers below.
